We have a members' only private Facebook group and we have recently become aware that some members were not seeing posts and events in their feeds. Below are some hints and tips to keep up to date on what we are organising in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Area.

A message from the Hampshire & IoW BDS Committee

It has been brought to our attention that members of the Hampshire and IOW Facebook page seem to be missing posts and event notices that we post on our Facebook page.

We’ve investigated this and although when posts are issued, we do use the @everyone tag this still does not seem to get around the new Facebook algorithms. This is something that is out of our control, but I’m hoping that this post will explain what to do to help you to get around this situation and keep you up to date with our posts and events.

So, sorry for the longish post, but we really want to help you get the most from the Hampshire and IOW Facebook page, alongside our website.

So, what is a facebook algorithm?

A Facebook algorithm is a set of rules that determine what you see every time you go onto your Facebook. The rules use AI (artificial intelligence) to rank the contents that you see, from Facebook posts from friends/family and businesses to groups that you have “liked” or joined, down to video/reels that you watch. It then scores the content that you see and based on its predictions and signals of your interactions with Facebook posts, it will rank it in descending order of interest for every one of you personally.

What can you do to keep engaged with the Hampshire and IoW Facebook page?

Facebook algorithms are constantly changing and evolving and being updated to ensure a better experience for you, their users. They want to promote posts that prioritize engagement with their followers and keep out fake news. (we never post fake news!! 😉 ) to do this the best way that you can keep up to date with what we post is to engage in the posts, give us a “thumbs up like 👍🏻” or even a “love ❤️” this way the Facebook algorithms generated by AI will see that you are interested in what we post, and do wish to engage with us, and will prioritize our posts for you to see!! But remember don’t just interact with us once as, as soon as it detects you’re not interacting with us again you will lose us!

Admins of the Hampshire Facebook page can get an insight into how many people our posts have reached on Facebook through our admin section. For an example the post for our Valentine social event only reached 8% of the group’s members, the Bisterne Manor drive event only reached 21% of the group’s members!! That’s not many members our posts are reaching considering we have 1.1k in the group and we tagged everyone!

I know this sounds all very “like us, like us” kind of post but if you don’t interact with us, the weird world of computer artificial intelligence will hide us from engaging with you!!!!

All of the Hampshire & IOW committee work hard to arrange events and keep our members informed via Facebook and our Website, but we do need you to keep the engagement up with us, especially on our social media platforms to keep you all informed.

Hope this helps. If it does remember to give us a “like” 👍🏻 😁
